PROBUS in Canada

“GET CONNECTED – STAY CONNECTED”

PROBUS has evolved into one of Canada’s most successful organizations. As of March 31, 2016 there were 238 active PROBUS Clubs in Canada with 33,596 members.

John Reynolds Morris was the founder of PROBUS in Canada. He was introduced to the idea in Australia, and his Australian acquaintances supplied him with documents and instructions on how to form a PROBUS Club. He rewrote their material into a document that would apply to Canadian PROBUS and began speaking at Rotary Clubs.

PROBUS Clubs in Canada began in 1987 and were exclusively men’s clubs. In October 1990 Women’s PROBUS Club of Burlington, Ontario became the first club for women, and the second was in KitchenerWestmount. Combined gender clubs followed, and today combined gender clubs in Canada far outnumber either men or women’s clubs.

Ten men and women have served as Presidents of PROBUS Canada Central. The 2016 president is Peter Doyle.
