CURRENTS December 2023

CURRENTS is the official newsletter of the Credit River PROBUS Club. It is published monthly and emailed to members to keep them abreast of club activities and to promote the club’s central objectives. Submissions are welcome as are new ideas and should be emailed to Lydia Koop, lydia4@cogeco.ca.

President’s Message

Here we are a few weeks away from Christmas, and as I think back, our relatively mild autumn season has been enjoyable with exceptional fall colour. Now the weather has turned much cooler, and people are putting up their Christmas lights, and setting up their outdoor displays.

We had our Christmas Luncheon at the Mississaugua Golf and Country Club on November 30, for nearly 80 participants. Although we have had our first flurries of snow, the day of our luncheon turned out to be another mild sunny day. It was a most successful event for which our sincere thanks go to Anne Fabierkiewicz for making the arrangements. The Mississaugua Golf and Country Club staff excelled themselves with the Christmas decorations, the table layouts, and of course the food. We had a choice of salads, salmon and turkey with dressing and cranberry sauce. The Christmas music in the entrance was a nice bonus, and with the buzz of conversation created a welcoming atmosphere. We have already booked a date for 2024.

I would like to use my last contribution to Currents for 2023 by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. I personally dislike the generic “Happy Holidays”. I wish everyone a special time, whether for you Christmas is a time for joyful services in church, or just a secular holiday. Hanukkah is also coming. The Festival of Lights begins this year on December 7. So special greetings to Jewish club members and friends. So far as I know, holy days for other faiths are behind us for 2023, but regardless of your background, and however you celebrate, I wish everyone an enjoyable – and a Merry – Christmas.
