CURRENTS November 2023
CURRENTS is the official newsletter of the Credit River PROBUS Club. It is published monthly and emailed to members to keep them abreast of club activities and to promote the club’s central objectives. Submissions are welcome as are new ideas and should be emailed to Lydia Koop, lydia4@cogeco.ca.
President’s Message
Changes! A new President for the Credit River PROBUS Club, and changes in the colour of the leaves, which many of us got to see on John Burrows’ fall colour tour. (Thanks, John for a most enjoyable day out.) Much of our autumn weather has been good, with some very warm days and balmy evenings. My garden too has changed with the harvest of tomatoes and beans now complete. The falling leaves are making extra work for those of us who are homeowners, with more changes inevitably yet to come as autumn changes into winter. Hallowe’en too will have come and gone by the time you are reading this.
As I take on the role of President, I would first like to thank the following for their contribution to our Club: John Burrows, who moves to the position of Past President; and three Management Committee members stepping down: Farida Merchant, Treasurer; and John Davies and Lee Pomeroy our Programme Directors
who book speakers. After completing her year as Past President, Janet Plens’ final responsibility as President is over. Thank you, Janet!
Now we welcome new committee members: Vice President Bob Warren who also is a founding member; Cathy Weber, Treasurer; Pat Grady and Mary Funston, our ladies who will arrange new speakers and lastly Brian Dixon, also a founding member, returning to the board as a Member at Large, and who also plans to help Anne Fabierkiewicz with Events. After our Town Hall with Brian at the AGM, we now have some new ideas as to what you would like to do. We are also looking at a Christmas luncheon for Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the Mississaugua Golf and Country Club.
In the President’s message of October 2023, John mentioned our goals in PROBUS are Fellowship, Friendship and Fun so let’s try to meet these goals.
See you next month at our monthly meeting, or perhaps at one of our club’s activities. With Brian I am a sometime “River Walker”, enjoy one of the dinner groups, and also Pub Lunch with the Ramblers, although our “rambling days” may be over. Just a reminder that for club meetings, refreshments start at 9:45am and the meeting itself at 10:15am. I hope to see you all soon.
Ada Dixon
