June 2023 CURRENTS

CURRENTS is the official newsletter of the Credit River PROBUS Club. It is published monthly and emailed to members to keep them abreast of club activities and to promote the club’s central objectives. Submissions are welcome as are new ideas and should be emailed to Nancy Hori, nancy.hori@sympatico.ca.

President’s Message

We have many volunteers that contribute to the running of our PROBUS Club and I thank you all.
This month, I want to give a big shout out to John Davies and Lee Pomeroy, who do such a wonderful job booking our speakers. Other organizations that I have been involved with have tended to reflect my specific interests such as aircrafts, railways and cars. Yes, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, and I know many of the situations shown in that movie. Our PROBUS speakers cover such a wide range of subject matter. Recent topics were the Manors Houses of Mississauga, Vexillology-the study of flags, and Amazing Canadian Women. In the past, we also heard about climbing Mount Everest and the Beatles. Where else would we learn about so many different topics? There are more to come in the rest of the year, so thank you John and Lee.
I will also remind you that you can invite a guest to our meetings. If you see that we have a speaker that a friend might enjoy hearing, bring them along. As a courtesy, please let Ada know they are coming. It may encourage them to also join a PROBUS Club, not necessarily Credit River.
They say that the happiest times in a boater’s life, are the day that you buy a boat and the day that you sell it. I would probably add a third, building a boat and finishing it. I have done all three and after many years sailing am no longer a boat owner. There are various acronyms for BOAT… Best of All Times or Break out
Another Thousand. I have done both. So now on to more dry land exploits.
