CURRENTS is the official newsletter of the Credit River PROBUS Club. It is published monthly and emailed to members to keep them abreast of club activities and to promote the club’s central objectives. Submissions are welcome as are new ideas and should be emailed to Nancy Hori, nancy.hori@sympatico.ca.

President’s Message

I have attended several PROBUS activities in the past month, however, I have to say my bowling score does not improve. The most recent activity was to Queen’s Park to see the 43rd Parliament of Ontario in action. I think I was last there about fifty years ago and it certainly was not the extensive tour we received this week. I was very impressed by seeing all that beautiful wood both on the floors and the intricate carvings with hardly a hint of modern glass and chrome in the public spaces. From the visitors’ gallery, I definitely learnt how not to answer a simple direct question by giving answers that gave everything but the answers you were looking for. Thank you Tim and Anne for organising this event. If you have never been on a tour of Queen’s Park I encourage you to take one of the public tours. There is more information on the Ontario legislature website. Remember to take photo ID and be prepared for airport level security screening.

In the March CURRENTS I mentioned that Lori McDowell has joined as General Manager of PROBUS Canada. Lori resigned in January for personal reasons. Wendy Machmer, a member from the PROBUS Club of Regina Saskatchewan, will be the new General Manager effective April 1. There had also been surveys amongst all clubs to seek approval of some completely redesigned PROBUS logos. The new designs were rejected by member clubs, including ours. We will retain the existing logo with just some slight adjustments to the type face. The final design has yet not been published to all clubs.

PROBUS Canada has tidied up some of their bylaws to essentially make them read what should or actually happens. After reviewing these changes, your Management Committee has voted in favour of these changes, which I anticipate will shortly be accepted at the national AGM.

I am very happy that I have delegated the role of joke teller to the Jester of the Month and thank those members who have stepped forward. We still need jesters for May, June, July, etc., so please step up. On a completely different note. I like live theatre particularly musicals. If you are interested, Mirvish offers “RUSH” tickets usually on the day of a show starting at 9:00am online, 10:00am by phone. If you are interested look at Mirvish website. You can choose from available seats wherever they are in the theatre at prices  generally less than the usual advance booking. My daughter has already told me that I am taking the grandchildren to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
