September 2024 CURRENTS

CURRENTS is the official newsletter of the Credit River PROBUS Club. It is published monthly and emailed to members to keep them abreast of club activities and to promote the club’s central objectives. Submissions are welcome as are new ideas and should be emailed to Lydia Koop, lydia04@rogers.com.

President’s Message

What mixed weather we have been experiencing this summer. We have enjoyed – if that’s the right word – some days of extreme heat, but also torrential rain, especially the storms on July 16 and August 17 that flooded homes, businesses and severely damaged some of our local parks, which will require extensive and expensive repairs. However, I am not forgetting that we have had days of more comfortable weather when we could sit outside with a pot of tea and enjoy our garden.

With the CNE having commenced August 16th , for its 145th year, regrettably I am reminded that our summer will soon be finished, fall will be upon us, and it will be back to school for students. Looking back here in Mississauga, we cannot complain as some parts of our country have experienced much worse weather than us, especially Jasper, one third destroyed by fire, and major floods in Quebec.

We are looking forward to a couple of Probus events in September – our delayed visit to the IESO and the Grand River Cruise with lunch and a performance by The Blazing Fiddles. Another upcoming event is the Fall Drive that takes place in October, always a fun day out. If you have any suggestions for places you would like us to visit, let our Event Director know and I know the ideas will be checked out. Once into September, our activities that were on hold over the summer will resume. Sign up and join the Club activities such as bowling, movies, and the investment group. If there is nothing that is going on that interests you – start a new activity. This is your club, so get out and participate.

Just in case any members should need a reminder (although I am sure no-one does…) our annual membership dues are due before the end of September, in the amount of $75.00, payable preferably by e-transfer to CRPTreasurer@gmail.com.
