Update : November 2021

As the government lifts restrictions on activities, our CR Probus activity groups are slowly gearing up again. The Ramblers and River Walkers are meeting, as are the Wine tasters and P.R.I.S.M.S groups. The lunch groups have begun getting together while the Dinner Groups are still not meeting. Please be in touch with the Activity Directors for up to date information.

Update: November 2020

Hello Credit River PROBUS Ramblers. Following discussion with other participants, it has been decided to temporarily suspend our Wednesday morning walks.  The protocols and restrictions for Covid containment change frequently and depending which region you reside in there are different regulations.  It is all too confusing! We will get back to our ‘Rambles’ as soon as it is safe for us to do so.

Stay safe.  Stay well. Ruby and Bert

The River  Walkers have also suspended their walks for the time being. Stay tuned for updates. Dorothy

Update for September

The River Walkers invite any members who wish to join them to contact Dorothy Davies at jdavie5467@rogers.com . They are meeting on Wednesday, ready to walk at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of Lorne Park Library on Truscott Drive, Mississauga.
They walk for approximately an hour on a wide paved path, and move to single file if meeting oncoming traffic. The path is relatively flat. This is a brisk walk, not a saunter, but they adjust according to our members.
Please contact Dorothy in advance so they know who to wait for, as they’ll leave early if everyone who has registered is there.
Members must answer a self checklist of Covid-19  health questions each week, and there is an activity attendance checklist for contact tracing for 3 weeks, in case any Walker develops Covid.

August Update for CRP Activities

The Dinner Groups and the Lunch Group are a strong component of Credit River PROBUS and everyone would like to return to fun times together. Unfortunately, the restrictions that are in place currently don’t allow us to do that. Some groups are willing to participate in ZOOM experiences and that is always a possibility.

Ruby Benoy says that it would be wonderful to resume Ramblers.  The average attendance prior to COVID-19 was 18 to 20 members. The idea of them walking ‘socially distanced’ is a comical thought; coffee afterwards would also be difficult.

Dorothy Davies reports that the River Walkers (who walk a shorter distance than the Ramblers) plan to resume weekly walks in early September. It will be a modified, socially distanced walk on new trails in Lorne Park and Erin Mills, as the Erindale Park trail is too narrow. If you would like to join them for an hour of chatting and walking briskly email Dorothy at jdavie5467@rogers.com .

JULY

Despite the suspension of our Credit River PROBUS general meetings since March, CRP members have been very creative in continuing to get together.

Lorne Smith reports that the available members of the Tuesday PRISMS ‘bubble’ gathered for a politically-correct socially-distanced resumption of single malt consumption on July 7 in the backyard of host Rick Scott. “We of course had suspended all activities since our March meeting. It was a breath of normality with the only measurable droplets being the golden elixir of life. We plan to proceed cautiously in accordance with existing/evolving pandemic guidelines and hope to regroup again next month in another appropriate outdoor venue.”

And what about other PROBUS Activities? The Ramblers have had regular Zoom meetings since March. Their schedule now is to meet on regular Pub Lunch day, the last Wednesday of the month. If you are interested in joining the Zoom chat, please send a note to crprobus@gmail.com.  In addition, the Ramblers have been frequently in touch with each other by email, sharing stories, videos, and jokes.

Dorothy McAnally tells us that the Lunch Group has also been meeting on Zoom since April. Thanks to their group member, Lydia Koop, who has organized this event as well as the Ramblers’ Zoom meetings. The Lunch Group or “Convivial Diners” enjoy getting together and chatting about: hair cuts, a wind storm that brought down trees, outdoor patios opening, how everyone is managing these very trying times! Some have been zooming while eating their lunch, but most have a cup of coffee, tea, even a glass of wine. They are hoping to have another meeting in July.

We mustn’t forget the Investment Group which is resuming their meetings via Zoom and of course the Golf Group who have been playing golf since June with some new rules and regulations.

Congratulations to all our members who are keeping CR PROBUS alive and well during these difficult times!
