\"\"The Credit River mixed gender PROBUS Club was formed on July 28, 2011 with 75 Charter members. It was sponsored by the PROBUS Club of Mississauga South. The Credit River Club has grown progressively to 200 Members and membership is fully subscribed. The Founding Members are listed on our Members Only Pages.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"The Club meets at the Mississaugua Golf & Country Club. Since January 2017, the meetings are on the fourth Thursday of the month at 10:15 am, although members meet for coffee at 9:45 prior to the meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

Members enjoy a wide variety of activities, events and travel opportunities, as well as interesting speakers at monthly meetings.\u00a0Credit River PROBUS activities include:\u00a0Book Clubs,\u00a0Dinner Groups,\u00a0Lunch Group,\u00a0Euchre, Bid Euchre, Golf, Investment Group,\u00a0Marathon Bridge,\u00a0Classic Movie Matinees,\u00a0Party Bridge,\u00a0\u201cPRISMS\u201d,\u00a0Ramblers\/Pub Lunches, \u00a0Sing-along, and\u00a0Wine Appreciation.<\/span><\/p>\n

PROBUS Background<\/strong><\/h1>\n

History Of PROBUS<\/strong><\/h3>\n

PROBUS Clubs originated in England in 1965,\u00a0organized by a Rotary president as an informal luncheon group for retirees. Following their success, the Caterham Rotary Club organized a meeting for retired professionals and businessmen the next year. They adopted the name of PROBUS, taking the first three letters of PROfessional and BUSiness. PROBUS has since spread throughout the world with over 4,000 clubs worldwide. It was introduced to New Zealand in 1974, Australia in 1976, and Canada in 1987. Today some PROBUS Clubs are still sponsored by local Rotary Clubs although Credit River PROBUS is not one of them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Purpose<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The purpose of PROBUS Clubs is \u201cto stimulate thought, interest and participation in activities\u201d and to provide fellowship and the opportunity to meet new people. Clubs are simple in structure, free of the constraints and obligations of service clubs, and involve members at a minimal cost. PROBUS Clubs can be all men, all women, or gender combined.<\/span><\/p>\n
